Game Plan

So I have been just a terrible ‘blogger’….I’m not sure I even count as that so I don’t seem to keep a very regular blog!
I have been trying to decide how I want to work mixing the back information about Traveller and I with the present. I don’t think what I was doing before, trying to fit all of the history in, is really going to work as eight years is a LONG TIME and we have had A LOT of experiences that could then literally take me forever to get through!
So, this is my game plan: Once a week (I won’t commit myself to a particular day) I will do a ‘history’ post about our road to the present. Between that I will add more recent items about what is going on/product reviews/pictures…etc!
Sound good? Good (no one reads the blog yet, so I guess my vote wins!)
And, for kicks, here are some recent pictures!

Mr. Traveller modeling his new saddle! (I will get to this in a later post)

And some pictures from the Spruce Meadows Six Bar (it is done 'under the lights' and my camera really really hated that...but you get the idea. The final height was an even 2.00m)

I wanted to do a review of my new saddle this week but I have yet to really ride in it due to the awful wet and cold weather we have been having! So, I'm not going to give anything away (not that anyone reads my blog as of yet) until next week when I can hopefully tell you all about it!

The one-eyed horse

Wow, busy week! So continuing on..

We slowly weaned Trav off of the bute and after two weeks his course of antibiotics was over. You could tell that the eye still caused him discomfort; he had become very headshy and kept it closed nearly all of the time-- the vet said that once the injury itself had healed this pain should subside.

A few weeks later we noticed that there was some discharge coming from the eye and it seemed hot to the touch. Crap. After another week on antibiotics and eye-drops, I wish I could say there was marked improvement….there wasn’t. The vet explained that because of the extensive injury to the eye, it no longer acted like an eye, it was more like an open wound.

It was now time to take a step back and look at the situation. Why were we leaving the eye in? There was no hope of him regaining vision and it was causing him persisting intense pain. We weren’t leaving it in for him….it was purely for us.

This lead us on to option 2, having the eye removed (enucleation).

So, long story short, the surgery went smoothly and Traveller was officially a one-eyed horse.

I apologize, I don't have access to my scanner at the moment so we will have to make due with a more recent picture!

We opted not to have a prosthetic ball placed in the socket due to the advice of the vet who said that the skin will often sink around it and look quite odd and that it can cause itching.
